Hi all
I am taking delivery of a 2015 MF755 this weekend and I have called the dealer to ask what type and size of gas bottle I need to buy for the single burner. The dealer says he does not know, just that there is a regulator and a space for the gas bottle!! Can anyone help with the answer to this question please so i can purchase ahead of delivery?
Many thanks in advance!
Elliot

Hi Elliot, My recommendation would be to get a stainless steel bottle and as large a bottle as possible that will fit in the space. I am surprised the dealer does not know, when I bought my boat new my dealer fitted the SS bottle free of charge.

Hi ehaysom,
My boat is not a Merry Fisher, so I do not know what size will fit, but I can say with confidence that any size will run your single burner stove without issues (unless of course you are planning a trip to the Antarctic or perhaps north to Alaska.
sitara ha recommended a stainless steel bottle and they look good but you will be limited to places that will refill the bottle and will not be able to use an exchange service.
I found on my SO30i that the problem was that only a small bottle would fit. Gas bottle dimensions are not standardised, as you will find if you measure some different brands of similar capacity. The dealer could only find one brand that would fit the locker, so we bought two. Ok until the refiller accidentally gave my bottle away to someone else and left me theirs - 1 cm too high. Problem was solved when I observed that the issue was the height of the regulator and the fittings used to install it. I had a licenced gas installer fit an extra elbow to relocate the regulator beside the bottle where there was plenty of space and now all 2 kg bottles seem to fit. We have bought a couple and used a special paint on the bottom half to reduce corrosion and make them less likely to be accidentally given away. Much lower cost than a SS bottle, or equally exotic non-metallic ones which I do not like for propane anyway.
I find it is better to have two bottles so when the first runs out (always when you are in the middle of cooking!) you can change them over. And I would not purchase until you have measured the locker. You will most likely have time while the dealer does his delivery preparation. And with luck one of our Merry Fisher owners will reply in time.
