Last time I was down on board I met forum member Jez (ELYSIA) and he noticed that my boom vang was upside down and that the plastic sleeve where the two parts join was in need of replacement. I checked z-spars and yes it was upside down Yesterday I removed it and replaced it the correct way. The outer section was totally full of water and so was the inner for that matter. The inner section was sealed so water could only very slowly drip out. I decided against making a hole and will let it drip itself dry over the coming days or weeks. It seems obvious that the outer section should hang from the boom. As I look around there is a 43DS next to me and and Hallberg Rassy that have similar looking boom vangs that also appear to be upside down.

Hoppy, I was advised to turn our vang upside down by a rigger last year to even out the wear on some part of the vang - can't remember why now. When I spoke to Z-Spars they asked why do that as the vang would fill with water and replacement parts aren't so expensive. So we did nothing and all is well still. Ian
