I have a 1999 SO 45.2. The deck hatches (all sizes) open and close fine with no leaks, but the hatches do not stay open. The prior owner used small PVC tubes with rubber caps to hold the hatches open. I assume the hatches originally stayed open without these sticks to hold them. Can the hinges be adjusted to increase friction so they will stay open?

We use the centre of a kitchen roll to open up the hatches. PVC sticks seem very high tech. Ian Correction the Admiral has spoken. Just tightened the Allen screw on the side. No more cardboard tubes!!!!

We had the same issue. We would tighten the hinge fitting, and the hatch would stay open for a while. Eventually, the hatch would close and not stay up. I got a wood dowel, cut it into a couple of lengths and stuck a rubber tip like the kind you would use on a chair onto either end of the dowel. Works fine.

Can use small gas shock absorber is nice to see and simple to mount. On yacht from 100 000 € put inner part of paper rol in the port is tragic?

Wine Bottle corks work fine.
For some reason we always seem to have a lot of corks floating about the boat.

If the large hatches are the same as on my boat, then on each side of the hinge you will see 2 plastic and 2 aluminium washers. The alu "washers" have a square tab extending from them with one going into the hatch and one into the base. They break off and then the hatches wont stay open. I ended up buying a handful of them from clartk&carter (I think) and now my large hatches hold their position Tightening the hex bolts seems to work sometimes for the smaller hatches

Had the same issue on our SO45.1
lucky for us the previous left a bagful of new Goiot spares onboard, both new latches and "friction kits", I changed them all and they stay open fine now. These friction kits are not cheap from what I've seen at the chandlery but worth it if you want airflow...
