Currently I only have the factory installed Racor filter under the aft bed (not the most convenient place to service underway). I am contemplating installing a Racor Dual Filter Turbine 500 Series Fuel Filter / Water Separator Model 75500MAX2 (2 Micron) system and have a few comments/questions: • Has anyone installed this system? • They also offer a fuel-polishing element. Has anyone install this devise and how has it worked? • If I locate this unit in the engine compartment on the upper aft bulkhead, it will be higher than the existing Yanmar fuel pump/filter and, of course, the fuel tank. Does that matter? • I also looked the KTI Filter Boss 60gph unit which is more complete as far as accessories are concerned, but also almost 3 times to price. Anyone install this unit! Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

I've got the dual Racor installed and like the system, one can switch to the second filter and continue running the engine while changing the other filter. I don't know about the fuel polishing, though. Having the element higher than the tank is good, since if one makes a mistake only air will get into the line - and that can be bled out. That is easier than trying to clean up a diesel spill in the bilges.

Today, I purchased the 75500MAX2 Racor system. The KTI Filter Boss was just too big & way too expensive. Sure, it has some added bells & whistles, but not worth 3 times the cost in my opinion . I'll update this after the installation.

I do not have the Racor double, but I installed a single when I first purchased the boat, a 2003 DS43. However, three years ago I installed the Parker fuel polishing system for $500 US and it works like a charm with the same size Racor (SM 2010 is the filter size); and both filters are almost always clean when I change them after 100 hours on the engine. I installed the Parker polish system so that I can run the fuel pump both when the engine is on (in rough water off shore to work up any crud in the fuel tanks) and when I am tied to shore power at the dock.
