I recently bought a 409 and will install an inverter and a GoFree unit. Looking for previous installs on particularly the 409 and 41 DS models.

I had an inverter installed in my 409, I will get you the model number. It is installed under the starboard aft cabin bunk. Right next to the battery charger. Power switch is mounted next to the fuse panel at the nav station. Has been trouble free for three years. Well worth the investment.

OK, thanks for replying. Do you have a rough wiring schematic also?

I installed the Navico GoFree Wi-Fi hub last summer on our SO40, placing it inside the wood plank that extends the instrument area, between the nav station table and the hull, on the port side. We didn't have any issues in data communication with the iPhone or iPad anywhere in/on the boat. The new B&G Zeus2 chartplotter was mounted above this area, but that didn't seem to impair connectivity. The chartplotter will get relocated to the helm in the coming months, but I'll probably leave the GoFree where it is.

Karl, thanks for the info. Looking at pics of ur model boat indicates a larger space than in the 409 model. Where u have the MFD installed that is a shallow cabinet now. though it could go there and still allow space for some documents. I have a Simnet backbone thus will need to get an adapter cable for the Micro C GoFree connection. The MFD is positioned at the end of the cockpit table on a gimbal for ease of viewing from either helm station.

Yes, under the aft end of the cockpit table appears to be the optimal location of an MFD for dual-helm boats. I don't have a good solution for this, yet. Worse, it appears that I can't pop the table loose without some sort of jack. The forward end is fully loose, but the aft end defies all blows of a rubber mallet. The SO40(.2) table is open and has no convenient enclosure for wiring, etc. Cut a hole in the support pedestal and carry on! Mounting an instrument pod for the MFD (Seaview appears to be the best option) requires much strength in a small diameter, which the table doesn't provide unless one tolerates screw heads on the top. I will probably take off the pedestal collars from the table, double the table thickness using Starboard, and then re-mount the collars and affix the pod to the assembly. This is turning into a far more complex project than anticipated!

I don't want to hijack this thread but I'm wondering what brand inverters forum members are running. I'm looking at adding an inverter and have differing opinions from the dealer as towhich inverter is best. Brands are xantrex and magnum. I'm looking for pure sine wave on a 379.

Re. GoFree, upon farther research the Ethernet cable should be used since the bandwidth is 10 Mbps vs 250 kbps for NEMA 2000. The graphics from the MFD to the iPad would be better at the higher rate. There are removal panels in the cabins that could give access to the space under the cockpit for mounting the unit. I found the Ethernet cable junction running between the radar interface unit at base of compression post to the Zues 2 display. It is tucked behind the nav station. it had a female to female 5" cable which I separated and connected both male ends to the Gofree module . I installed it behind the switch panel.
