Just completed my yanmar spares inventory... 3 belts, 2 fuel filters, 1 impeller and a couple of bolts, a tiny gasket and a small o-ring. Now at least I know what I don't need

If you look after the engine then there's very little you need. In 10 years all I have used is filters, belts and impellers along with oil. But experience has taught me (the hard way on another boat) that there are some parts that don't stand up to a lot of use and these parts can get a lot of use if things go wrong and are a show stopper, when they breakup they really ruin your day.
MY pet hate on Yanmar is the humble diesel filter bleed screw, I am sure its made of a very inferior type of porridge or maybe a material a little softer than that: say warm plasticine or play dough. IF it is needed to be pressed into service in anger after a delivery of water with some fuel mixed in with it and you need to repeatedly bleed the engine after changing fuel filter after fuel filter, it will disintegrate, even if you use a spanner of the right size. These little beasts are incredibly expensive but have been in my tool box unused but much loved for the last decade, waiting with a dozen fuel filters for a delivery of water and fuel mixture.
