Just hauled my new (to me) Tonic 23. She had sat in the water at least 10 years since the last haul. Other than several hours of scraping the bottom and replacing the centerboard the rest was normal maintenance. The saving factor was the PO had applied a barrier coat to the bottom. I did remove and replace all the hull stripes which took some extra effort. I found out what the two U bolts on either side of the deck are for but I can't figure out what the black metal bracket on top of the port side of the stern is used for? I'm sure it was not an add on since the fiberglass is molded around it. ecl Reedville Va.

Glad that your re-commissioning is going well. I expect the bracket you are talking about is for the fitting of a single rowlock. There was a regulation that French Boats had to be able to be "sculled" using a sweep oar in case of engine or rig failure. Was a great idea

Thanks Malcolm That is more than likely what it is since my boat is a 86 French built boat. It does kind of look like a keyed oar lock. It just bugged me since I could not figure out what it was used for. I do have a dock fishing rod holder that will fit nicely into the keyed fitting but I was sure that is not what the fitting was intended for. Eddie
