Hi All I have recently had an Eberspacher D4 heater installed in the starboard cockpit locker of my 43DS and the exhaust has been routed out via the hull side (as opposed to via the transom). I have read Trevor's excellent 'Hints and tips' article about installing a Webasto heater and , I see that he has a very similar location for the exhaust. I have a question about water ingress - have you experienced any issues with water getting into the exhaust piping when the boat is heeled over ? Regards, Steve

I have a Webasto unit (slightly different skin fitting) in a similar place, but touch wood not water issue
BUT do be very careful with the placement of your aft fenders in the winter - not only will they melt if too close could also be a slight fire risk...

Hello Manaia,
I have had no problem at all with water ingress. I put the outlet about 150mm below the gunnel and back as far as I could. The further back the better. If it was placed midships it would take in a lot of water but the further back the less chance of going under.
Regards,
Trevor

Haha, we live not far from the Roaring Forties, so angles of heel are usually bigger ! The exhaust is quite close to the stern, but I was thinking of the quarter wave and how it can ride up occasionally. Thanks for your comments, they are reassuring ! We have quickly come to enjoy the benefits the heater brings and wish we had installed it sooner.
