Hi folks, I need to replace my cb bearing but trying to use a puller after removing prop I couldn't move it even slightly. Just stacked. Need to pull out shaft and use a saw to take it out. Do I have to remove rudder to allow shaft out or can it be done over the rudder as is ? (My older Sun Shine allows doing it this way) Please suggest Thanks Alex

Hi Alex,
I hesitate to mention the obvious, but I assume that you have removed the set screws from the bearing support strut?

Hi Rene460, yes I did. I am quaite familiar with those CB removal but need to remove shaft to cut the old CB from inside. This will be my first shaft removal on this new for me boat. Alex

You don´t need to remove the rudder. Maybe turn it slightly.
I find it very strange though, you cannot remove the cutless bearing.
I tend not to use a puller, but hammer it out with a steel, blunt strip of stainless. It´s approx 25cm long, 6mm thick and approx 20mm wide, so the strip hits on two spots on the bearing at the same time. Never fails.

Hi Onyva, I tried both ways ,puller and heavy hummer work, this is to be handled carefully because support bracket is not fail proof. I aim towards shaft removal and want to be sure that the bit of eccentric position of rudder and shaft line will allow shaft removal without rudder dismantle. At first glance it looks quiet marginal. Thanks Alex
