Hi
I want to fit attachment points for safety harness in the cockpit of my SO36i, however I'm not sure where is the best places and what size backing plates are needed.
Has anyone done this?
Thanks in advance Noel

Hi Noel, I have fitted jackstays (webbing) running from the aft to forward deck cleats. This allows great movement up and down the boat and in the front section of the cockpit. Movement across the cockpit at the helm is limited with my existing tethers. I am planning to put attachment points on the front of the lazarette and the gas locker to get around this problem. There is an attachment point welded to the front leg of the cockpit table but I have not used this yet. Cheers Rob

Noel,
I have fitted jack stays to a SO36i between the front and aft cleats. I used webbing and attached to the aft cleats with multiple layers of dyneema. I also had webbing made to go between the port aft cleat and the starboard aft cleat. That doesn't sound very convenient and at first thought it may sound like it would simply get in the way. That is not the case and it positions the webbing across the boat just behind the helm. If pulled tight it provides a great stabiliser because you can helm with one leg in front and one behind the webbing giving something to lean against. You can clip onto the webbing and move around the cockpit and go from port to starboard quarters while staying clipped on.
I hope this helps......great boat by the way.
Regards,
Trevor

Hi Noel,
I have an SO36i and I fitted an attachment point on the companionway sill. It is bolted through and the nuts are hidden under the stairs in the engine compartment. I used the biggest washers I could fit as backing plate. You can therefore come out of the cabin with your harness already secured. It also good to be tethered while you're sitting in the cockpit. When on the helm, I used the pad eyes for the spinnaker blocks as secure points.
Cheers, Allegria
PS: Let me know if you need a picture...

Hi Allegria,
I'm sorry I missed your response, I must have been sailing. :-)
A photo of your solution would be great if you don't mind.
Regards Noel
