We are now pretty well forced to use higher specification oils than are required, but the requirements laid down by engine manufacturers are minimums anyway. I am using Shell Rimula R4 in my 4JH series engine because it is what I have available in Turkey.
I think the oil you have found will be perfectly OK. A mineral oil is fine, you do not need to use, or want, a synthetic oil in an older engine.
My belief is that oil is far cheaper than engine rebuilds, so the vital thing is to change it frequently. This is important in a marine engine because the only way to get the oil out usually involves sucking it out via the dipstick tube. The result is that some old oil is left behind to contaminate the new, even if you have also changed the filter. If not changing the filter it is a good tip to take it off and empty the old oil out of it, as some filters hold quite a lot, then refit it.

We had Mike French, www.frenchmarine.com, teach us how to service our 4JH4 last November and although not fully enamoured by the Tesco supermarket brand he agreed it would do the job. The only advise I've had from the UK importer is not to use synthetic oil. Like Normane we change the oil frequently.
