There is a wooden panel on each side of the ceiling in the saloon of my Jeanneau 36i. I need to remove it to get at the nuts that hold the genoa track onto the deck (these are loose). But I can't get it off ... even pulling down on it hard ... I've removed 5 screws that fix it to ceiling but I think it remains stuck by a layer of rubber / sikaflex-like sealant. i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee277/B-FLAT34/P1030480.jpgAbove.. the wooden panel that I need to remove ... pencil indicates one of the screws that I have removed i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee277/B-FLAT34/P1030479.jpgAbove ..side of a panel with sealant (indicated by pencil) that needs to be removed, cut or unstuck. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks for your help

If the SO36i is similar to the SO32 and SO32i, then the headliners are attached with screws and heavy duty velcro type fastening, that requires a fair bit of effort to unstick. Once you have removed all of the screws, there should be places on the panel where there is a bit of give. Start at the side where the panel will flex and start tugging - not steady pressure but jerk the panel. There should be progressive movement and the velcro will slowly release its hold.
Of course, it is possible that there is some sikaflex that has extruded through from a deck fitting and is now sticking the headlining to the coachroof moulding, but provided that there is some movement on the panel, you should be able to unstick this too.

Jon, thank you.
No sign of any velcro unfortunately. It feels rigidly fixed but no sign of the fixings (other than the 5 screws that I have removed). I'm afraid of breaking the ceiling panel if I force it.
It is just held by sikaflex, is there a smart way of softening it or making it unstick?
All advice would be greatly appreciated. If I cant remove it, I will have to cut nasty great holes in it to get at the nuts, and that would be a pity.
Thanks.

It is my understanding from our commissioning folks that Jeanneau sells the finished wood by the sheet to them. If it breaks, and you need to make a new one they may be able to help. Let me know

Hello ,
I would use a Stanley knife (utility knife, box cutter, segmented blade knife) with the blade well extended to cut through the sikaflex to release the panel. When the panel is removed, the silaflex can be removed more easily and then reapplied when reinstalling.

Trevor

Trevor,
Thank you. The link is extremely helpful.
It appears that I need a sharp knife, a bread knife, a screw driver and perhaps some Marine Formula Sikaflex solvent .. and several hours. By the way has anyone tried using chemicals to unstick sikaflex?
Regards,
Peter

hey Peter , please check the hint &tips section and look for 'galley grab pole ' here you get some pictures on how the ceiling is most likely fixed , next to the sikaflex in your case that is possibly added for the finishing touch. Good luck.
