Hi Guys.
I'm new to the forum and would like some more info about the S/O 49 2005. I'm just looking to buy and need to know if there is anything that I should be aware of. I intend to cruise ARC, possibly ARC world.
Has anyone ever stood one on the keel against a wall or piles for cleaning off? How will I get on in the med or elsewhere at marinas with 49 foot to park up?

Hello Aurora, I've had a 2005 49 SO since new - great boat, fairly fast, especially to windward. 7' draft, switched from in-mast to boom furling (going to a full roach, full batten main made a huge difference). Have Max prop (works great), and bow thruster (a really handy feature in cross winds). Had to angle trailing edge of keel and rudder (described in another thread on rudder vibration/noise) and replaced muffler due to pin hole corrosion leaks (there is a thread on this, too). Otherwise just a few minor issues due to commissioning errors. Good luck on your search! Regards, MC

Hi Aurora, I own a 2006 SO49. I bought it used in super mind conditions in 2012. Three cabins, two heads. The most comfortable boat I've ever owned or sailed on!
A few things to look at. I'd highly suggest you find and read the threads on this forum about rudder problems. They seem to be common for the Jeanneau's. Another thing to research are the thru hulls. Also that's a fairly common problem.
Other than that, the only "problem" that I can report is that if you find a boat with two AC units installed AND a genset like mine, there's no room left for a webasto ( hot air ) heating unit. The hoses for the second AC unit in the aft cabins and the hoses for the genset use any and all useable space that would be needed to install a webasto. Eventually a hot water heating unit needs to be installed with all the complications ( and price!!!) that come with it.
The original/stock sails are worth nothing if you want any real sail performance. I replaced mine after a month or so I go the boat.
Getting into marina's / slips is fairly easy since the boat does respond really well to the rudder. I seldom have to use the bow thruster. We're a couple sailing this boat and have never had a problem getting into slips we've been assigned to.
Helps?
