Last week I had my first overnight sail. The conditions were light and it was all comfortable down below, but there were a few things that clearly needed to be changed to make long passages more comfortable in heavier conditions. The two areas I need to address for certain are sleeping and the galley The aft cabins are fine as is if the watch does not tack when you are asleep So I need to fit lee cloths between the cushions, but I'm not sure how to mount them. The inner skin liner feels a bit flimsy and can imagine that it would not take too much force to pull out any screws used to mount it. In the galley I need to find a way of giving the galley slave some support so they can prepare food without the need to constantly hold on when on a starboard tack. I also need some bright ideas about how to stop cups/glasses falling over. I guess some non-slip matting will help control plates. Anyone got any tips for improvements to make life below more comfortable?

We started with lee cloths in the Aft Stateroom but because there are only two of us we opted for more pillows. We have lee cloths that go down the center of the aft Stateroom using screws through left over battons. They worked well but found we didn't need the lee cloth. In as keeping the cups from falling over in the galley or wherever, use short and very wide cups with non skid bottoms. We found them at Fishery Supply in Seattle B
