A friend of mine is taking his so36i to lagos in the algarve in june and is wondering how much spare fuel to take in other words how many miles per litre.even though i have a 36i i never worked this out.if anyone has done their calculations maybe you would be kind enough to help him out. thanks. nac.

Consumption tends to be per hour as the effect of tides, waves, wind direction and strength etc will have a really large effect of course on distance run
but presuming calm seas and no current/ tide I guess it is around:
2.5l per hour = 1 imp gal per 2 hours, so making 6knts though teh water will be 12 nmpg or there abouts?
But I stand to be corrected

Following on Malcolm's post, the Yanmar manual says 2.5 L/hr at 2500 rpm. On our 36i, that's about 5 kts, no wind, no current.

The 2,5l at 2500rpm sounds about correct given our actual mpg. I think the speed is dependent of which propellor you use. At 2500rpm our 36i reaches 5,9 knots (no wind and current). The boat has a 3 blade Variprofile feathering propellor.
