Hi folks, 40 DS 2005 - change all of it into led bulbs. How to do,what to buy, where to buy. Recommendation about degree of white (k) to use? Can we use dimmers ? Any needs for changes in the old system ? Red/Green nav lights on Jeanneau ,what replacement bulbs to use ? These are basically my concerns , can we get help from experienced owners ? Thanks Alex

I changed the interior halogens for multi led units in the winter (the cheapest I could find on ebay) they looked fine and work OK , but I did specify "warm" but they are quite bright white in colour, they are OK for background lighting, but do not have enough brightness for reading, so I have temporarily switched a couple of them to the halogen. Probably a case of you get what you pay for.

When I made this change, I got a couple of different color temperatures. 3000K is far too blue for my taste. 2700K seems pretty nice.

I fitted the IKEA units. They are a 5 minute replacement for the whole Jeanneau standard unit. They are nice warm white, bright, and swivel to direct the light. £45 for 4, I think they are a bargain. Used 3 seasons now. www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40171405/

I fitted these (or similar). They are a direct replacement for the halogen bulbs in the standard fittings on our SO42DS. They are certainly bright enough to read by. I also fitted a few of the less powerful (fewer LED pads) in some locations to enhance the 'mood' lighting options. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B006TH54P4/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1365539536&sr=1-11&pi=SL75(Other online retailers are available)

Hello Alex, I replaced my halogen bulbs in our 42DS recently. I bought these out of China. www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370707628764&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:AU:3160They were very cheap ($2.45 each) and are very good. They have a wide ranging input voltage specification and the light output is higher than the original Halogen. I was concerned that the light would reduce in level so I conducted tests with a light meter. Unlike the last lot of LEDs I bought, these are brighter than the Halogens. ;D It is a very worthwhile exercise as LEDs are so energy efficient. We can leave them on without feeling too guilty about the batteries. I hope this helps. Happy sailing, Trevor

I got a couple of the adapters mentioned as I couldn't get decent LED units to replace the reading lights in aft cabin of m 42DS. I think that Ultraled used to sell them as well www.ultraleds.co.uk/I've bought quite a few now from Utraled and following might help: 1) Older warm white were still too white for my taste. I'd agree that you should try ones with lowest K value available. 2) You might not need 15S adapter as brighter LEDs with the correct fitting seem more common now 3) Go for really bright reading lights (I replaced my 1st 15W equiv. LEDs with 30W equiv. LEDs and they are great for reading. 4) Flat G4 style are perfect for units in headlining but you need all round style for reading lights 5) Anchor light was my best buy. I did have trouble figuring out which LED to buy as dealer wasn't certain what was fitted as standard Anchor light: 2009 42DS uses the Aquasignal festoon with dimpled ends (44mm Long x 12mm Wide), not the 15S fitting used on the larger Aquasignal light. I was expecting the larger fitting as the Aquasignal 25 light is only said to be suitable for up to 12m. I don't think that it complies with regs. for a 13m boat. Fortunately, I'd had a trip to the masthead before ordering so was able to buy the correct bulb.

Hi folks, hi Mistroma, Thanks for the replies you all sent. I did not reply sooner because I am away from home in Hong Kong. Mistroma, your supplyer's web looks to be the most helpfull and detailed and provide vast possiable sustitude for all existing lamps on board. I still do not understand what leds did you use for your red/green nav lights ,does your fixtures include red/greed lences or transperent like ? What wattage did you pick up for the anchore light ? Thanks again Alex

We replaced the Red/Green Aqua signal navigation lights with Dr. LED USCG approved LED. I could not find the invoice, so I don't know the model, but you can visit their website at doctorled.com/crossref.htm. The steaming & anchor lights were both replaced using the attached picture. They have adaptors for both contact connectors.
