Hi Catawba, Select the recent 50 posts from our home page and look for the topic on mast tuning for SO32 where you will find several contributions which will apply equally to you. Rene460

On delivery of my SO33i Performance I measured following shroud tensions:

Thought I'd bump this...has anyone been able to find any optimal settings for their 33iP in terms of upper and lower tension, prebend, etc.?
Unless I misunderstood the readings that pbunning provided, those loadings seem too low.
Any insight would be appreciated!

I have a 33i performance sun odyssey called Silver Fox which I sail out of Brighton in the UK. We have put some pre bend in the mast will inner setting 900kg and outer setting 1540. Have increased the backstay purchase to 16:1 which helps with pointing in heavy winds. Have put on the largest sail area for main and removed the furler system for a tuff luff use maximum head sail size with North Sails 3dl. This has improved the upwind speed but IRC rating is now 0.959 Regards Paul

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your reply! Looks like I would need to take up the tension a bit to match yours.
We sail our 33iP on the Chesapeake Bay with a PHRF rating of 120, not exactly a gift rating!
Cheers, Marcel

Rating wise, I have heard a rumour IRC 1.0 is about equal to a 100 phrf. BUT, could be wrong too. 120 sounds potentially a bit fast.....a sunfast 35 is 105 IIRC, local SF37's are 120. upper 130-140 range seems more logical, but again, could be wrong.

My 33i has 7mm wire outers that break at 4100kg. 1540kg is way above the 20% max suggestion that selden give. I set mine to 20% with backstay on and that's around 23% with it off. Inner lowers are 400kg and upper 325kg.
