I also have a DS be it a 40 foot, older model , large windows but I have no such cracks. Sorry I cant be of any help , but you do have my sympathy . It goes to show that competition leads to inferior products. They cannot cut on labourcost (risks of strikes) so they keep the profits stable by cutting down on materials . Very disturbing evolution. This will backfire no doubt about that.
Succes and regards

Vince,
I think a second opinion is called for, find a technician who knows Jeanneau.
If the yard are nervous then find another yard. No special tools are required to remove the windows but you need plenty of patience. I have limited experience if the 42DS but the problem you describe seems similar to that on some 43DS where the compression post support has issues, could be worth checking. There should not be a major stress path via that part of the deck.

Vince,
Jeanneau gives 5 years warranty on Structural foults. i.a. anything to do with the Janneau designed and manufactured part of the boat. ( Hull, Deck etc). If you have stress cracks than Jeanneau could be liable and have to correct this as per their own warranty. I have simmilar problems with warping too-rails causing leaks in the deck. For the last 6 months I am trying to get this fixed trough the Dutch Agent who seems to be taking this seriously although Jeanneau is in no hurry of doing mutch. If nothing happens soon now, I will take it several levels further. I suggest you start Reminding Jeanneau of the warrenty and or also put a claim in with your insurrance. If they refuse on the basis of structural problems , you know who to get to next.
Best of luck, and let us know how you are getting on.

netguy,
In the words of Apollo 13 "Houston we have a problem"
I am unable to advise you about American consumer law but in the UK I would be instructing a lawyer - I have some experience of Jeanneau warranty - they need a quick firm kick, or a gloves of punch to attract their attention, the longer you wait the weaker your claim is. My record is to reject a boat 20 hours after delivery - yes all was resolved amicably - eventually. It was my second Jeanneau I learnt the hard way on the first. Still think they are great boats though.

Hi there
I'm new to this forum and i'm not sure if my initial message got through (my apologies if I'm sending this twice). We also have a 2007 jeanneau 42ds with what appears to be hairline to small cracks in the gel coat (between 1 and 2 inches long) around the corners of the windows forward of the mast.
Your posting has me worried that they may develop into something bigger and I will be monitoring them closely..
It would be great to know how you finally (hopefully) resolved the problem to help inform other people here who's boats my develop this issue.
Kind Regards
Phil
