We have a 2008 SO42DS with a Mastervolt 3.5 120V genset. It is mounted in the after port lazaretto. Great location except when it comes time to do maintenance. I connected it to a Jasbco oil changer so I can change the oil from the salon, but it is tight quarters to do anything else. Another more accessible alternative is the port locker, but I would add some sound proofing all around.

Hi I have had a Paguro 4000, noisy as He¤#, I now have a Fischer Panda, noisy as He¤# as well. I would try to get one of those at 1500rpm if I was looking to install one my self. Mine came with my boats already fitted. The one I have now is the Panda and is fitted starboard compartment behind the aft cabin. It is almost inpossible to get access to any work on it. We have a 2008 so42ds

The mastervolt is NOT noisy. Easily have conversations anywhere on the boat with it running under full load

That depends of what you consider noise. I consider the yanmar diesel engine noisy and my genset makes the same amount of noise. We all can almost have a normal conversation while the main engine is runnnig but that is not a quiet time for us. I am taking actions this spring to make it more quiet, installing a muffler and a water separator. Hope that will reduse some of the noise. We usually anchor up longside many other boats and are very seldom able to use the genset without disturbing the other boaters around us.
