On October 17, the theft was reported of a Sun Fast 37 from a marina in the Netherlands, at the small town of Monnickendam on the IJsselmeer. A remarkable tale, as the liferaft of this boat, containing an inactive EPIRB, was picked up near Cap Gris Nez (Calais) by the French Coast Guard on Friday October 26. When they activated the EPIRB it proved to belong to the missing boat. The thieves may have wanted to rid themselves from the EPIRB to reduce risk of being traced. The boat could still be in the Channel/La Manche area. It may help if forum members in the area keep a lookout for the boat and, if sighted, contact local police and/or coastguard. Boat's name: ‘Schuim en as’ Home port on the stern: 'Makkum' (in red characters) The boat has two red stripes along the hull. A photo can be found HERE. This information is a summary of a thread about this subject on the Dutch Jeanneau forum.

Maybe the liferaft was released on that location (by an other boat be it conspirators) intentionally to mislead the search Sad story of a very bold theft.

I didn't think that such a theft would have been possible or profitable for the thieves. I really hope that they get caught and the boat returned soon! I couldn't quite understand the dutch post regarding monitoring system (from Conrad Electronics, for €200?). I think I'll see about getting something like that for my boat.

Thanks, all. Releasing the liferaft may have been meant to mislead the search, but that would be an elaborate conspiracy. The Conrad unit is an interesting gadget. It has extensive functionality based on a pre pay SIM card and a built in GPS receiver, and it will send a text alarm to your mobile phone. I'm considering fitting one myself:
- Entry alarm with a switch on the companionway hatch and a delay function to be able to switch off the alarm - Temperature alarm high and low threshold - Battery voltage - Built in back-up battery charged from the main house bank - Movement alarm if the boat is moved 30 metres or more - Position indication in latitude and longitude - Area preset: if the boat moves outside a preset area, an alarm will be given - 2 remote control functions, for instance to enable you to switch off the engine from your mobile telephone - size 4x6x5cms, easily hidden
An example of a text message alarm is shown below.
Alarm on GSM 38% (GSM reception) Accu 100% (GPS battery) Area off voltage 12.6 volt (boat's house battery) adc 5.3C (interior temperature) in1 high (status alarm) out1 off out2 off incall out1 0s (status switch over mobile phone)

Is there any news on the status of the stolen yacht? Unfortunately not that I am aware of - I have just posted to Facebook to help spread awareness - but if the life-raft find was not a red herring guess it is now far away and maybe having a respray? If like me you cannot access the Dutch forum - (I seem to have been banned from logging into it? I hope not due to rivalry between Dutch and English speaking Jeanneau Owners?) - there is more info and photo's at: blog.taas.it/2012/10/stolen.html

Malcolm,
If you were banned due to operating a rival forum per say, would not be the first time that has happened. Altho, I have yet to see you bash, nor do you bash other language speaking forums. If anything, you will also seem to help promote them.
Then again, maybe you forgot a login or password?!?!?!?

I haven't heard of any news of the stolen boat either. I didn't know of the blog page you mention - it shows better photos.
Funny that you cannot log in to the Dutch language forum. Have you been in touch with the webmaster? If you like I will inquire.
