EDUCATION/LECTURES Meet Laura Dekker, the youngest sailor to solo-circumnavigate the globe Thursday Octoberr 11th TIME: 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm All are welcome at NESS to hear Laura Dekker, 16, describe her solo circumnavigation aboard GUPPY, a 30-year old 38-foot Jeanneau Gin Fizz ketch, on October 11th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The presentation will include loads of photos from her voyage as well as some exclusive pre-release video - including of species she encountered around the world. Dekker had to cope with weeks of solitude, ocean storms and a fear of pirates while navigating and sailing, all the time trying to keep up with her schoolwork. Dekker covered more than 27,000 nautical miles on a trip which started in St Maarten, from where she set out on January 20th, 2011 and returned in 2012.
