Over the last couple of years since owning our 36i I have been using all types of lights for cockpit use such at eating and cooking on the BBQ using head torch's and 12v plug in type lights the other day it occurred to me that a bike light that clamps onto the handle bars would work very well the type that uses a torch and can pivot. When checking the eBay site there are many type simple and cheap. Even small rubber type one that word be ideal for attaching to the Bimini bars above the table. Has anyone used such light? As I don't really wish to put a wired light into the area. Cheers Gecko.

The problem with a bike light is it is a spot light. I recently came across a grill light at Lowes. Has multiple LEDs and some AA batteries. It is about 7" long and 1.5" dia with a screw clamp that is intended for a larger rail. Easy to build up one side of the clamp to fit the 1" rails. It is a flood and works well for lighting up the whole cockpit, cost about $10. It works for me till something better comes along. I have seen some bimini lights for sale on ebay but they are cheap looking and expensive.

I wonder if a diffusor out of plastic, as used with camera flashes, might work for a bike light?
I ended up making an LED light with an attached dimmer for my cockpit since I couldn find a better solution.

Hi there, we fitted 4 solar lights purchased from a local hardware shop, 3 cost $12.00 each and one with a remote for $25.00. These were sold as solar shed lights approx 150mm long with a solar panel and approx 2 metres of cable between the light unit and solar panel. When fully charged we get 6 hours of light from each light. They seem to be reasonably water proof and work very well.

gecko36i, We bought a 48 LED bulb light from Quick. It is round like a donut and is designed to hang from a string. We hang it from our boom. Model # KIRK utility light. It is extremely bright. After we bought 1, we bought 3 more. wwwquickmarinelighting.comWe also sail a 36i Happy Sailing, mkremedy
