I am the original owner of a 1984 Jeanneau Attalia. Over the past few years she has started to list notably to starboard on the mooring/when floating free. The list is quite perceptable now, to the point where the harbormaster became concered. There are no leaks in the hull and/or deck. The rigging is installed correctly, by a professional. Keel and rudder are also straight. She has never been aground or hit anything. I thought it may be a weight and balance issue, so this fall i removed everything, as well as emptied all the tanks (water, fuel and holding) and it did not change anything. I also filled them all back up, to no avail. Trying to understand what's going on here. has anyone else a similar experience, either with this model and/or vintage of Jeanneau?

Move grandma's china to the other side of the boat. Seriously I don't know. You say the keel is straight but have you measured from rail to center of keel, side to side to compare. I would probably add weight to the high rail until level to get an idea of the scope of the problem. I am unfamiliar with the Attalia but would look for an area that could trap water, perhaps a plugged weep hole in a bunk.

Depending upon how unlevel you are, this has been an issue with a few of us with Arcadia's, ie a 2' shorter boat. Best to try and re load the boat so it seems to be level with gear. I lean to port a bit.
Worst case, could be the deck balsa is getting water saturated on the now leaning side.

May not be an elegant fix, but boats such as the Sun Odyssey 34.2 had an imbalance from new that the factory simply fixed by adding an internal trimming ballast of lead mounted well above the waterline on the high side - guess mine had something in excess of 15kg

The SO32 has a similar problem and 'fix', with a block of lead on the port side behind the settee. See photo.

Adding weight might work but it does not address why the list has gotten worse over a period of time.

I agree with Gene and MartyB, if nothing else has changed I would suspect that water is seeping in somewhere. Maybe you could borrow a moisture meter and test the hull and deck for high readings. I would also consider calling in a surveyor to try and find the problem.

I am the original owner of a 1984 Jeanneau Attalia. My 1986 Attalia has the same problem, also when everything is removed from the boat. However, with the water tank filled up and no extra weight in the starboard cockpit locker, there is nearly no listing. I have ascribed it to the lightweight underwater construction. Did you find a solution? Best regards JensK

We list to port because the port locker has two anchors, chain and lots of rope. To fix the problem we make sure the fridge which is on the starboard side is full of beer. On a serious note it takes very little cross wind and tide influence to make the Jeanneau SO37 lean. We would be lucky to get ten days a year when the conditions are calm enough to get an accurate measurement. Once the yacht lists a little the boom swings that way and she lists a little more. Do check our the moisture level in the deck as that has long term consequences. David
