I am looking for information about the exhaust water separator - also known as a water lock, water muffler - that is built into the port side engine bearer on my 2006 Jeanneau SO 42DS.
I have a small leak (about a pint an hour when the engine runs) that appears to originate from the exhaust entry point but, having changed the inlet exhaust hose and renewed the jubilee clips without affecting the leak, I now need to know a bit more about how unit is constructed - ideally a make and model - so I can see if further fixes are possible or if that fails, replace it completely.
If anyone can help - or point me at an authoratative source of information, I would be grateful.
Many thanks.

On our 49SO we had a leak from our exhaust box which turned out to be the weld at the back of the box. It was very difficult to get out but when we did we decided to buy a whole new box.

Thanks for the reply. Where did you get the new box from?

We got ours from Jeanneau at a vast price! As we are in Venezuela we did not have much choice but quite a few people suggested we got one made in fibreglass which does seem a good idea. Hope this helps

I forgot to say that the problem was probably caused by electrolysis because the box was not earthed.

My muffler is plastic... I have new pictures! The attached .pdf is from Jeanneau and shows the exhaust system and parts list. Sadly it is not in enough detail to show how parts 6 and 13 are joined. I fear it is this join where my leak originates... Attachments:

The answer, courtesy of friendly engineers, is that the exhaust muffler tail pipe had been screwed into the muffler/water separator badly i.e. with a crossed thread. It has been fixed by dismantling and reassembling with sealant and I may consider replacing the whole assembly in the winter. I don't think I am the first to encounter this problem. I am the second owner of this boat so can't say with any certainty when the problem first arose.
Hope this helps someone else.
