Can anyone tell me what colour wire goes onto what on this standard alternator fitted when my 39i was new in 2008?
Going clockwise from top: T connector (1 horizontal, 1 vertical); BAT (positive); connector; connector; N (earth or ground); connector (almost at top). Apart from the pos & neg wires, I have a blue/black wire; red/black wire; yellow/grey wire.
A marine sparky took the alternator out to replace the diodes and now he can't get it connected up again. He cut off the green wire from inside, which I think was the tacho wire. Insufficient details in the manual. Hitachi and local automotive sparkies say they can't help. You would think that they would put an indicating mark against each connection. I have given the sparky the boot and, like everything on the boat, will now learn for myself - with your help please.

Many thanks rhb. First link I had but second one confirmed a few things.
For others who may need this one day for their Hitachi LR180, going clockwise: T connector horizontal is red/black for ignition; vertical is blue/black for lamp; BAT is for red battery cable; ignore next terminal; then black battery cable and the small black wire which was on before; ignore N terminal; ignore last terminal just before T connector. The wire coming out of the side of the alternator is for the tacho and connects to the yellow/grey wire.
Now I have to find out why the blower doesn't work and why the sparky has disconnected a relay from which a black wire is connected to the alternator above but the orange wire from the relay is cut. Also cut back to the metal crimp was a wire coming off the starter motor.

The cut crimp on the starter motor is still a mystery but the relay worked the blower, so that's fixed by connecting the orange wire from the relay to the positive on the alternator.

Bumping and old thread, but just wanted to get this out there. My new to me 03 43DS had a 120 amp alternator added on custom bracket in the bilge in front of the fly wheel. This was run off the double pulley. Well it was not a reliable setup. The alternator was mounted very rigid while the engine is on rubber mounts. Thus the alternator housing cracked and bracket cracked and resulted in total failure. Reminder this was not the Yanmar original alternator or setup. So I decided to go back to the OEM installation and was looking to get the Hitachi LR180-03 rebuilt. My rebuild shop found a recent release of a J&N alternator (#400-44109) that was a Hitachi replacement BUT is rated at 120 amps. Thye also have a 97 amp version. I thought I would give this a try. Paid $150 for the unit from my local shop. Supporting local business . I know there are some replacement for the Hitachi also sold on amazon etc at about $100. I have a spare on board The unit is very close in size as the hitachi and I was able to install it with simple plug and play into the Hitachi location. I know this is a Chinese built unit and I am willing to give it a try in my low use scenario. The shop said they have had good service out of J&N products. So time will tell on how reliable it will be. Anybody have any experience with this alternator as a replacement for the Hitachi?
