We need your advice/experience. We have a 2007 Jeanneau 42DS. At the stern, there is a gap between the deck and the hull. It is filled with an epoxy like substance, almost like the caulk in the bathroom between tube and tile. The epoxy has started to degrade and is starting to come out in clumps leaving a void. Is this structural? Has anyone had this problem? The dealer suggested removing the "caulk" and fillilng with 5200. Any suggestions? ?

Ahoy Paradox, I have 07 39 DS and had similar issue with the caulk degrading at this stern hull/deck joint. I cleared out the old, cleaned and re-caulked with 4200. The 4200 has serviced well for the past two seasons. I had some concerns 5200 might be too hard, too permanent at this joint so opted with the 4200.

I am attaching a picture of the hull/deck separation at the transom. The caulking between the top and the hull is flaking like old toothpaste. Via the dealer, Jeanneau says that this is merely caulk and not structural. They recommended using PU50 to seal the area. My local NY dealer recommended 3M sealant or Star Brite caulk.

I have a 2008 42DS and just rechecked this area...no separation and very little gap. The caulking is tight. Did you but this new or are you second+ owners. You might want to see if the previous owner did some work or had some damage.

I have a 2008 42DS, the caulk has dried and is falling out, it is not structural. I am replacing with Sikaflex (polyurathane based caulk)
