Hello! I am in the market for a cruising boat and have been offered a J Sun Rise 35 with pivoting centerboard. As I plan to go across the Pacific to Polynesia, I am concerned about seaworthiness, particularly concerning the performance of such a boat in heavy seas. Can this boat right itself after a capsize? To quote J Vigor: "Anyone contemplating an ocean voyage with a keel/centerboard would be wise to consult a qualified naval architect about the boat´s ultimate stability" Also from J Vigor: "You should also ensure that the centerboard cannot crash through its housing in the event of a full capsize. If a heavy metal centerboard were fully extended at the time of the capsize, but not held firmly in place, it would cause considerable damage to the interior of the boat and could possibly plunge through the cabin top with disastrous results." "There are some boats in which the centerboard is housed in a stub keel of such a weight that it alone would provide sufficient ballast to right the vessel after capsize." Can anyone comment on this matter? Where can I obtain detailed technical specs on amount of ballast, center of gravity, etc? Thanks for your help. Hugo
