thought i would restart this query as it is some time since my original post i have now successfully re beaded 4 of the saloon glazing units it was as suggested a bit of a job if any one attempts this be aware that the glazing itself has quite a wide rebate channel cut all the way round and is quite thin on the outer edge the only way I could find to free the glazing was with sharpened 25mm decorators knife from the inside ( the one with a very flexible blade ) and work it through to the outside If you can find someone to take the Job on £200 a window I would not hesitate, I have resprayed the black masking strip around all the windows took ages to mask it all off looks nice though and i would not want to revisit the seals themselves just an idea if anyone is thinking of re masking make a template for the edge strip and get a sign writer to cut them in vinyl might be quicker and harder wearing things you think of after you have done the job! pink for the ladies?

Hi Wndspeak we did the same on a 42DS in 2008 and found the forw'd lights now leaking in heavy rain. No rebate channel in the 42Ds glazing units but we think the black is designed to stop the UV having a deletarious effect on the mastic material. What material did you use for the sealant? Hi sirromcd used a urethen based automotive glazing sealant sanded everything ba ck to totaly clean surface and swabed all surfaces with accetone prior to application had to build a timber frame across the boat to bring wedges to bear on bonding areas for front facing windows bit of a job and my fingers are crossed interesting that you dont have rebate mine is 02 vintage I am also considering filling the bottom edge between glazing and the frame with thixofix to overcome mould growth inthe groove

We used Sika 295UV and it was a success... for 4 years anyway. I inadvertantly said we had a 42 but its a 0143DS and now we have discovered another little problem that might be related to the port light leak. Out mast has dropped about 3/4" (19mm), and now working on a rebuild before we attempt to do the remastic of the port light. I was alerted by a recent string in the Equipment forum and low and behold. We will rebuild with hardwood and epoxy glue and glass between and top it off with a new stainless steel base plate that fits between the 2 stringers and extends all the way to the front of the compression post base.
