Hello everyone.. my relief valve is leaking and the system will not hold pressure.. my question is what is the appropriate PSI? i checked and different manufacturers have them set differently. aftermarket products Raritan is set for 75psi , Seaward 100PSI , Amazon has some 150PSI..
It would seem to me that they all seem too high .. i thought those pumps only pump 35-40 PSI.
Does anyone what manufacturer is used? 2004 DS43
Yes I did look up online to the Jeanneau parts site and it says this ..
35 973625 CHAUFFE-EAU 40L CLEGHORN 99 1,000
which I believe is the whole heater , I did not see anything about the valve
Thanks everyone

Hi Knotsmart, the relief valve on the hot water tank is provided due to the pressure that can result if the tank is shut in by the various isolating valves and taps while full of water and the heating element keeps operating. Even heating by high ambient temperatures can over pressure steel pipelines when water filled and blocked in. But because the pressure is due to thermal expansion of the liquid, only a small amount has to be relieved to keep the pressure within safe limits. It is not to protect from overpressure by the water pumps which, as you say only provide much lower pressure, and by their operating principle, cannot overpressure the vessel.
The relief valve set point is in reality determined by the maximum allowable working pressure of the tank. The difference in action between higher and lower pressure is not important for practical purposes. I would examine the tank carefully and see if there is a data plate which states the maximum allowable working pressure, which will also include a temperature limit. Anything below that will be satisfactory. If you can’t find any data plate, use the lowest set pressure you can find.
Land based rv’s also have a similar hot water tank so rv suppliers might be potential suppliers of suitable valves.
It is also worth seeing if you can disassemble the valve and clean the plug and seats. If my memory serves well other forum members have reported success with this process, though I don’t know if this affects the calibration or if it was successful in the long term. Try the search button on the General Jeanneau topics board using likely search terms.
I hope this helps,

PS I don’t understand the polystyrene beach ball comment, or it it another victim of the AI Spellcheck?

thanks

If it is the valve factory delivered, it has a possibility to turn the knob. This will lift and slam the valve seating, breaking any scaling, to prevent leakage. My bi-annual maintenance on the water heater.
