I, too, am looking for a US source. The standard car timed relays that I found weren't exactly compatible as they kept the shower sump pump off for 15 seconds and then on permanently.

I think I found the correct ones at a British online parts shop. I ordered two and total with shipping is $80 USD. If you look at this link on page 2 you can find the right relay and options for timing. One of them is the 12v that turns off after 15 seconds. Take a look and see if you agree that this is correct. I have a friend heading to England in a few weeks that is willing to shop for me. So if this didn’t right I’ll try that way.

EDITED....We installed a 751 relay back in 2013. I can't find the invoice, but I bought it on Amazon. I was on the boat today but could not find the extra relay I purchased for the forward cabin. I'll have to pull the panel off at the shower controls to see if I can find it over the weekend. Timer Relay for Showers 09-19-2013.pdf (812.48 KB)

I found the relay. It is an Adjustable Timer Relay 12v 10 amp ALT/T40205-1-09. I was incorrect in that I purchased it through Amazon. It was eBay.

An adjustable timer relay might be a good idea. But if you like the 15 second relay as original ( at least in my boat) these people have it and mailed two to me in the USA for a total including postage of $80 USD. www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/

Amazon appears to have an assortment of 12 volt timer relays in the $20 price range.

I bet Amazon does have something that would work. But I can’t find one that is a delay off that matches the pin configuration.

That is the problem - the pin layou. The standard timed relays I'd purchased didn't work correctly due to the layout. When switched on, the pump would stop for 15 seconds and the start..

I realize this is a long shot but if anyone is willing to wait for this summer, I intend to be in France at that time and can purchase it for whoever needs it in the US at the French price plus shipping cost. If you want it in June I can ship it from France or alternatively if you can wait September I can ship it from the US East coast (cheaper). Jean-Luc

I actually removed the relay because I found 15 seconds was too short. I turn it on and off while I’m having a shower based on how much water is in the pan and it works a lot better for me. Your mileage may vary…

I ordered 2 of these relays last weekend from the U.K. to deliver here to St. Martin. They e-mailed me this morning asking for another 15 pounds for additional shipping, making the total shipping cost higher than the 2 relays! I wanted to go ahead, but only if they'd put it to DHL today, but they couldn't so refunded the costs. Oh well, my guests will have to use a bucket and sponge after showering now

moonshadow - if the relay works, could you send me the Amazon link? I can get expedited inexpensive shipping from there to St. Martin.

I ordered direct from a place in England. Arrived quickly in USA. It might be worth seeing if they can ship to you. I won’t be home for another Month or so but it sure looks like the exact part. I found the right part on this page: www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/search?q=12v+timer+relay

moonshadow - my error, I thought you'd purchased in the USA. How did you get that cheap shipping, their default is GBP25 for international shipping...

I wired one of these into my shower sump pump circuit which was only on or off by a switch in the head. You can program it for any amount of time you want something to run, or program it to cycle on and off.

I have a question for the group – what is the need for the delay on this relay?
I took mine out because it kept shutting off prematurely and I found it annoying. I turn it on once the water level starts to get above the floor level, and off when it’s pumped it out. I don’t know why there’s a timer there anyway. There’s no issue running the Gulper 320 pumps for longer. I checked out their spec sheets and don’t see any notations or reason why they can’t run continuous if need be. That said, there’s no need to run continuous because it empties the shower tray on my boat relatively quickly.
Curious if anyone has an explanation or if it’s just some sort of convenience?
Also, if anybody needs one of the 15 second relays, I have one that I took out of my boat that I’ll send you for free.
Carry on! David

I only have momentary foot switches for the shower sump pumps, and they are momentary contact only. So I can't easily switch to a manual on-off system without installing a waterproof switch. And the shower where I use it has an enclosure so the switch would have to be on the inside and there's nowhere in that area that I can access without disassembling the whole boat

For me the current system with the 15 second timer works well. The reason I didn’t want to change to a different timer/relay is that I try to keep the original mounting and pin connections because I have been known to make mistakes when I make changes. Keeping it original is just simple.

I had thought to replace my timed relay with a toggle relay after reading virtualburton's post. But with a little searching on Google I didn't find such a relay, they are either NO or NC (normally Open or Closed) and switch states when power is applied or removed from the switch circuit. Does anyone know if such a relay exists?

Hi Zanshin, I just used a standard relay, nothing special. I just ordered a set of 5 from Amazon… D.

Do you have a switch that you hold to keep the sump pump running, and when you let go it stops? Or do you press once to start and press again to stop?
