Hello,
I try to figure out which maintenance I need to do on my SD50 and I need some clarification please.
2 years ago I changed the rubber seal diaphragm for which yanmar recommends a 5 year interval. So no problems here. Now I think about the lower shaft seals (not sure if this is technically the right term). I was checking the Yanmar manual, but these seals are not even mentioned. On the other side, I saw youtube videos where people changed them. So do you change them regularly and if so when?
Do you use workshop manuals for your repairs? I found some on the net, but I am not sure if they are worth it.
Thank you for your support.
Thomas

If you’re talking about the seals at the bottom of the SD leg then yes I get mine changed every 2 years as part of haulout service. I also take the opportunity to drain all the SD leg oil out by opening the bottom plug and leaving a bucket hanging underneath for 24hrs. Then refill with new oil.

And make sure you use the correct oil for SD50 (SAE90 GL4). Must not be GL5.
