Does anyone have a suggestion about how best to air condition an SO 35? Can I simply buy a home air conditioner? Thanks!

I am guessing that Guildford where you are is somewhat sunnier than Guildford UK, … lucky you.
Installing fully fitted air conditioning would I imagine take up quite a bit of space, and if intending to run it at remote anchor spots would involve quite an upgrade to the house battery bank and charging system, they seem to be quite power hungry items. If mainly popping out for day sails and retiring to a marina for the night, I would think a ‘home ‘ portable model plugged into shore power might workout ok.
I haven’t had the problem of being too hot except once or twice in Greece, and found rigging up a small chute sail above the fore hatch to keep a flow of air helped a bit, and throwing myself overboard worked quite well when all else failed.
If you find a small unit and a space for it, do post your install.

I have a Westerbeke 9KW marine A/C installed in my SO 35. It takes up the locker just forward of the galley, plus a fair amount of space in others for the piping. I had it installed by the yard crew a year after I bought the boat. Previously, I had used a suitcase-type marine A/C, which was much cheaper but a real pain to use. It had to sit up on a counter with the pump transfer unit led out a hatch down into the water.
If you want simplicity, I would suggest the type that you put over a deck hatch. They aren't small, and can be a bit of trouble hefting them into position, but they don't take up space in the boat while in operation.

Thanks for the input! I plan to use the AC at the dock only, so my thinking is that a simple shore powered unit would be a good start. When out from the dock I agree with the quick dip theory! Thanks for the fast response!
