Good morning,
I'm in the process of purchasing one. I have the owners manual for the 47, does anyone have a access to the owners manual for the 45? I am curious about sail size for replacement when the time comes and things like tank location, etc.
Also, I've seen a number of pictures of the 47 with a chainplate for a staysail ( 2 headsail furlers - clipper rig), and I think a 45 with the same. If someone could give information on that it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

1984 Jeanneau Sun Kiss 45 review
Surveys came back. Standing rigging needed to be replaced: $$$ (appeared to be original), and lifelines were cobbled together. More $$$. Engine oil samples failed: $$$, and it had blow-by under load which filled up cabin (cough, blink). Wrong prop: $$$. Hull survey indicated moisture in cored deck, dry rot in cabinets, and many wires etc. that just went nowhere: $$$. While sails were "serviceable", the question begged is "for how long?".

I have an 85 Arcadia bought in 2005. My sails were usable then, barely! If you have the originals, time for new ones! Depending upon type and style, mine are $2000 to $4500 US for basic dacron to a high tech laminate. Which todays laminates are lasting longer and better than dacron. I'm 30' with main just under 200 sft, 155 genoa is 350. If you do some of the rigging yourself, both standing and running, reality is not too much $$$. Yes it needs to get done if original. Older boats are not always a cheaper option than new. I have after 20 years more than what it would have cost me for a new one. TIme to buy new sails again, some of the interior work ie varnishing etc needs to be redone, New vinyl I did is still doing well.

The manual for the 45 is probably not much different to the 45. Think it just had a sugar scoop added for the extra length. Manuals for this era, are not very helpful unfortunately, plus it sounds like you have a lot of work ahead, hope you bought her for a low price! You could try and email to service.client@jeanneau.fr Ask if they have a manual for a SK47. They will respond to emails either in French or English, but give them as much information as possible including year of build, preferably the hull HIN number etc. Good luck, please keep the forum updated on your progress. Malcolm

I apologize for not being clear.
I stepped back from the deal - the boat was uninsurable.

Agree with Malcolm it sounds like you dodged a bullet there.
I’ve withdrawn from 2 purchases over the years after investing in the cost of haulout & surveyor. Whilst it was frustrating at the time to lose the money, it was the right long-term choice choice.

Thank you gentlemen. While it could have been restored, I was told by a reputable source, "think twice the budget and timeline and it will be more."
I've been on enough boats to recognize good heritage. But, my wife hated it, and she was right. We want a boat with enough space to cruise Southern California in the summer and then some weekends, not spend time on restoring.

Hah! Regardless of the list of pros & cons, if your wife hates it from the outset then it’s an easy decision!
