Hey folks, I bought a Sun Odyssey 37 back in October~ or so. She surveyed well and I'm in the process of having the survey punchlist addressed. Will be renaming her S/V Moderation. Of course the proper ceremony honoring King Neptune will be conducted before I put her back in the drink.
I'm new to sailing proper but I've got quite a few bluewater miles under my belt courtesy of the United States Navy.
Anyhow, I've wanted my own sailboat since I was 15 years of age and now I finally got her.
I have done some sailing intensives so I have the basics down nevertheless I am doing a deep dive into preventative maintenance since it's not the season where I'm at currently. I live at the top of the Penobscot Bay area in Maine; Searsport to be exact. My homeport is Stockton Harbor- I've got a mooring there.
One of the first improvements I'm making to the boat is a prop change. She has a fixed triple currently and I'm going to install a Flexofold.
Quick question, Flexofold wants to know if I have an ISO 25 shaft; I presume that means 25mm diameter?
If I could get a quick confirmation here I'd appreciate it.
I'll post boat photos as things develop. Right now she's in Connecticut and I plan to sail her up in the first weeks of April.
Regards!

Congratulations on your new boat. It will give you a totally different perspective being on the sea compared with a Navy ship! Not to mention that you will be responsible for all aspects of the boat and her voyages.
Yes, ISO 25 indicates the diameter is 25 mm. It also specifies the taper where the prop is mounted on the shaft.

I have a 2002 SO37 and replaced my prop a couple years ago. The shaft is a standard tapered 25mm shaft.
Good luck in all your upcoming adventures.

What did you replace your prop with and what was the outcome?

I put on a three blade Kiwi Prop (feathering). Very happy with the result. Good performance under power and blades feather nicely when under sail.

Congrats on the purchase. I have a 02 SO37 but haven't pulled the trigger yet on a new prop. New engine, new solar, new electronics, new sails, yes... but still have the fixed 3 blade.
I've heard good things about the Gori prop. If you haven't made the purchase it's a good alternative to the Maxi and Flexfold.
Welcome to the forum!

Hey there folks... I'm purchasing a Flexofold 3 blade today. Thank you for the check on dimensions. I've already verified diameter, taper, etc..
Since I'm replacing the shaft seal I figured I might as well put in a new cutless bearing and motor mounts as well.
Once I have her sailed home, she's on the hard in Norwalk Connecticut, USA, I'll then have a solar arch fabricated, installation of new battery system... etc..

I got lucky on the sails, they're less than two years old and they're laminate. Boat is in pretty good shape albeit stock configuration the exception being a set of davits. Thanks for the welcome!

FWIW, I've been very happy with the 3-Blade Flex-o-fold I put on my 2008 model 36i. I think you will enjoy the prop.

Hi, Well you have picked an interesting first trip on your new boat. It's quite a trip from Norwalk back to Maine. When are you planning on making the trip? In 2022 I made a two week trip from Long Island (Port Jefferson area) to Portland and back. I had a great trip but wow, it's a lot of miles. Good luck. If you don't mind, please keep us / me updated on your progress. Barry

Worked night flight-ops on a carrier in the Bering Sea! I've got a captain/sailing instructor going with me and my daughter as a hand. I'm planning on five days for the transit give or take. Will be day sailing to the Cape Cod Canal and then a straight passage from Cape Bay across the Gulf of Maine to the Penobscot.

When I had an SO37 i bought a solar arch from MPI-INOX in France. They have the measurements for an SO37 so didn't need mine. The arch was delivered to the marina covered in miles of bubblewrap. The arch clamps on to the stern rails with 2 additional vertical supports which were bolted on to the sloping part of the transom (a little drilling was needed). The arch easily supported 2 rigid solar panels and a 2.4m dinghy with outboard. It came with mousing wires installed for the cables and lugs for the dinghy hoist. Very easy to do and highly recommended though shipping from France may be prohibitive but worth getting a quote. mpi-inox.com (inox is what the French call stainless steel)

I do have KATO Davits and it seems with the addition of a brace they design for this purpose I should be able to mount panels on my davits!
