I have been working on various fiberglass gel coat repairs of chips and spider cracks, as well as, general cleaning and polishing of the gel coat in the cockpit of a 2018 SO 419. I have noticed a slight color difference between the lazarette gel coat and the other cockpit gel coat. I’ve tried testing a light application of rubbing compound but still noticeable to my liking. Any thoughts on restoring the proper WHITE color to all the lazarette gel coat?

Are you sure the color of the covers originally matched the surrounding area? On my 2004 SO35, one of the covers has always been a bit different. I’ve assumed that this happened during manufacture, probably because the original cover was damaged and replaced with one that didn’t quite match.

All the hatch covers in the cockpit and anchor locker of my SO 379 [2012] are a slightly different shade of white from the deck. This shows up most clearly when the surfaces are wet; the hatches have a yellowish cast, darker than the deck. The dealer said that the hatches were separately manufactured with their own batch of gelcoat. Replacements had an equal chance of poor colour matching. I had more serious new warranty deficiencies to sort out, so I let the colour variation stay as accepted.
