Hi, arrived at our winter berth and started thinking about modifications and projects for next year. We sailed about 2.500 nm this year but unfortunately still too much under motor, so light wind sail(s) is the topic, I have on my mind.
So far my main direction is a code zero which covers a great range of wind angles. Influenced by my last passage with one week of light aft airs I started looking into the gennaker/asym. spinnaker world a bit more and found the parasailor from ISTEC (www.parasailor.com) It sounds very promising on their webpage and what I saw and read on the internet is promising too.
Do you guys have experience with that sail. Would love to ask a trusted community.

I know the company and some employees and they joke that I'm one of their oldest customers even though I've not bought my parasailor. I have it on standby order (with a Grateful Dead logo), as I won't buy it until I go through the Panama canal - conditions in the Caribbean are such that I don't need one there. I did talk to some cruisers that used it, and loved it, for the Atlantic crossing. As a old flyer, I like the aerodynamics of the design and the built-in "safety valve" to prevent overpowering the boat.

I have spoken to a few that use this sail and they seem happy. One great feature seems to be the wind speed usable range. I am generally happy with my code zero, with its wider wind angle range,but I roll it up around 15 kt apparent. The parasailor owners say they use it to double that.

In which range are you sailing in with your code zero? I thought it will have its limits down wind! Parasailor claims 70 to 180 which is huge!

I had my code zero cut a bit flat for more upwind angles. Really it sails like a giant Genoa. But on the occasions that I have used it for downwind sailing I find that if I loosen the halyard a good bit and keep my main out of the way it does a decent job. My only spin is small for higher winds.

On one occasion we flew it for three days and two nights without dropping it. It was a joy to use and superb for downwind sailing (the best speed that I got was 19.5 SOG). If I were to do another East to West I would definitely take a parasailor with me…

Sounds like a fantastic adventure. Ordered mine last week and I will receive it mid February . Fastet delivery would be 6 weeks.
