Hi All,
i've noticed the bearings are starting to perrish and crumble apart on the mainsheet car travellor unit. Are these a special item or just standard bearings that you can buy to replace?
cheers, nic

Sorry I am no SO42.2 expert, and also don’t have an Amiot traveler, however, when my Harken traveler spat its bearings all over the deck, and quite a few into the sea, I sought replacements, mine were not metal bearings but polymer Torlon bearings, and the cost for a new set was enough for me to search for alternatives.
Amiot nor Harken (or Jeanneau for that matter) make bearings, they just use commercially available bearings, and a bit of googling once you know what size and material you require will pay dividends indeed. My Harken bearings were less than a quarter of the price than officially branded bearings, and delivered next day free.
Examine the crumbling bearings, take a micrometer or vernier calliper to the best condition bearing you find to determine the size, and if they are a bit plasticky, they are probably Torlon, (and at a guess, probably 8mm or 5/16th” in diameter) , …. determine the size , of which, both are available, if metallic they will be 316 ss, but many boaty bearings have gone over to polymer as all they need is a little water flush to keep them good, rather than grease.
I don’t see your location from your post, but a google search should put you in touch with a reasonably local supplier of bearings.
Hope this info helps a little.

Hi Charlie, Thats perfect information and makes sense, the peices I'm collected from my deck looks like a plastic now under closer inspection or a nylon. So most like it is Torlon bearing like you mention. Looks like a local shop to Australia as them, I'll measure and order! www.bearingshop.com.au/store/partslist/ballsplastictorlon/Thanks heaps; Nic
