Hi everyone: I am making a new boom outhaul car for my boat (in-mast furling) and need the width and depth measurements for the slot and U-cavity on the top side of the boom. Photo attached, though prob not the right size so pls ignore the product code: it's just to show the slot. I have attached a photo of the Spar Craft part but it costs an eye-watering £400+ ! I have some s/s plate and am confident I can obtain similar wheels and make this myself, but the wheels dia need to be right otherwise they will have too much/too little room in the slot. Incidentally Spar Craft told me they no longer have the torlon slides for the original boom car, hence looking for a new and better solution. These wheels look to be about 20mm dia (?) or maybe less. They obviously run inside the boom (as opposed to the other retro-fit system which is to fit a traveler set-up on the top of the boom). Your help is much appreciated. Rob 'Mariposa'

Rob, i will arrive at my boat (43ds 2004) this coming Sunday and can then send you measurements. My boom traveller (original_) is the classic Selden type with ball bearings, not the fancy wheeled affair that you show in yr message. Anyway, reverting with dimensions. Andrew "Genial Bee"

Andrew, that would be really kind. Mine is currently the slide version outside the boom as well, but I am keen to make the version with the wheels and see how it works. I fly out in a couple of weeks so plan to make it before then and fit it - just need to get the size of the boom slot/aperture.
Thanks Robin "Mariposa"

Hi Robin
Did you get the measurements? I will be on the boat next weekend
I need to replace mine and adding wheels would be a massive improvement to the experience of dealing with the sail, that design looks great
Cheers

Hi Andrew, Yes, they are 19mm diameter wheels. My initial trial version fits well, slides in the book slot and is an improvement on the friction version used on the original. Now that I know it works, I plan to make a more accurate version (eg my drilling of the plate for the wheels). I also used 19mm shower door roller wheels but want to check they are strong enough!
