I've add a Standard Horizon radio alongside the Raymarine since a) I had the SH radio and a RAM+ mic and b) I'm not thrilled with the Ray53. I'm trying to decide where to install the remote mic (RAM+) on my SO419. The easiest location for the connector is the port helm station beside the engine hot exhaust. The handset would mount beside the multi-display (see photo). I'm interested in any pitfalls of this installation or suggestions for a better location. ASIDE: I put the put the instrument covers upside down so I can access the little curved tab to help with removal Thanks in advance!

Not sure where the exhaust exits on your boat but if the connector for the mic is in the approximate location shown in your photo, it _looks_ as though the cord will be in interference w/the wheel when picked up and used.
Based on sad experience: make sure the connector is not protuding where it can become ensnared by an errant sheet with somebody hautling on it. As well, these can get broken off by crew members if they're in an exposed location.
The final location for the RAM on our boat (SO39i) is below the aft lip of the fixed portion of the cockpit table, with the connector snugged up high where it's not likely be bumped/entangled. On this model at least there's a cable snorkel emerging in base of the table pedestal, where the extension cable can be run.
The center location has the distinct added advantage of being usable from either wheel.

Hi - i have a 439, so very similar cockpit arrangement as I understand it. I have a plotter mounted on the aft end of the cockpit table on a scanstrut pod. I fitted a ICOM remote handset by locating the handset plug on a small bracket in the space to the left of the scanstrut pod mount where it is well protected. There is space for the handset be securely placed to the right of the pod mount (not using the mic bracket, its not needed). This central location is ideal as easy reach from either wheel, easy to quickly grab and does not get in the way of anything

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to try to install the remote mike inside aft opening drawer of the centre console. That gives easy access to both wheels as well as keeping the mic and connectors out of the weather. I'll attach a photo once I'm done.

My setup is as you are proposing in the aft locker of the cockpit table. The main drawback is that you will need an attachment that allows the locker door to be held slightly open to allow passage of the power cord. The locker door fully open is an ankle banger between the two helm stations. Keeping the RAM out of the weather when not in use is worth the inconvenience of opening and closing the locker.

I did install in the aft opening of the cockpit locker, despite the knee banging option. Photo attached. I may also install a speaker in the side of the table so I don't need to keep the drawer open unless I'm using the handset.

I drilled and screwed in a small panhead bolt in the middle of the table lip and then backed it off about 1/8th inch. I then backed off the top 2 screws of the door latch and attached a short loop of sail twine. By flipping the twine loop over the panhead bolt, I can keep the door open about 1 1/2 inches, allowing the passage of the RAM wire.
