We just saw a sailboat specifications listing that says a 44DS can travel the ICW. To do that the total height needs to be less than 65’. We “thought” we were taller than that! Can someone confirm they have travelled the ICW on a 44DS or do you have accurate total height measurements of one? If it matters, we have the shoal draft with the standard (non-performance) rig. Thank you!

We got word from Jeanneau that we are 64’ 4” with antennas and sensors removed. Anyone done the ICW at 64’ 4”?

We have the Performance version of the SO 440 with a stated mast height of 64.5 feet, and have done sections of the ICW. With instruments we figure we need at least 67 feet and then there better not be any wake. It is doable, you have to pay attention to tides and we have had to anchor and wait as some of the bridges have settled and are actually lower than the 65 feet stated in the charts.
We also draft 7' 2" which people will tell you can't be done, but in reality this is less of a concern than the bridges. We live in GA where it is said to be the most shallow.
We go on the ICW if forced there by weather, or when doing short hops that just don't make sense for going out and then back in. Otherwise we are off shore and actually sailing. In my opinion, if your desire is to cruise the ICW then you should look at a power boat. There are very few spots for actual sailing and there are lots of bridges and shallow water. If you wish to use the ICW to get to another sailing ground, then it is doable. It just takes patience.
I hope that helps.
Warm regards, Chuck
