Hi all, Does anyone have experience in dimming the led lights in cabin and sleeping room. We love the boat but we do not love the very bright lights and like to reduce to a kind of ‘glow in the dark’ form. Thanks for your advise and ideas. Hans

You need to purchase and install a 12V dimmer switch (a search online brings up many variants for boats and caravans etc), however you will also need to ensure that all the led light bulbs are dimmable versions of the led bulbs so this may also mean replacing all the bulbs on the circuit you want to dim.

Hi Simon If you connect the box after your touch switch then the touch will work as main switch. It means, let your touch switch be on and your remote will always work for turning on and off. Keep it simple Good luck :-D

Hi Hanzel
On your vessel, not at all. Only one way to find it out.
Take a fresh 9-volt battery, disconnect one of your LED light, and connect to the battery. If you don’t have a small cable to connect use a paper clip in metal.
You do not need to be worried about the polarity. If it does not light up swop the polarity.
It should illuminate less powerful. If not, then it is not dimmable.
Mostly probably, it is. Note. When you dimming a standard old fashion bulb then you get warmer light more to the warm yellow/red light, it is glowing. Normally a LED will not change color when you are dimming. It’s only the intensity that change. Ok, they are some LED that does glow by dimming but 99,99% chance probably not yours.
Do not worried about the 9-volt source. It is not hazardous and not dangerous if you make a short circuit.
Good luck
:-Dan

I tried to add a dimmer on our 2015 NC11, but it did not work. the tech said we would need to update the lighting with a dimmable led light system. I did find some battery operated reading lights with suction cup mounts that we use in the forward stateroom, as they can easily attach to the mirror. We use a dimmable rechargeable table lamp in the main salon

I changed the forward two lights in the salon from white to soft blue. Although not ideal it's better than the bright white light.

Hi Ian222, last weekend I bought a dimmer comparable with the one showed by Damen (however not for that very low price....). In 2 weeks time we hope to be back in the water and I will test it. Keep you informed.
By the way, does anyone removed the existing square LED lights in the cabin? Is it just force you need or something smart?

i think the covers just pop off, you can take the headliner down to get at the back of the lights as well. i look forward to hearing how the dimmer works!

Today I installed the dimmer and indeed it was working however ............all the rest is also dimming and the lights at the stern did not work any more. Tried to find out why, it seems that there is a kind of relais that is powered by the pink wire coming from the switch in combination with the LED related black earth wire. Tried also another black wire but no succes. I am affraight I have to accept it. Next move will be to mask the LED's a bit with perforated tape to make less brighter. Keep you informed.

i switched my ceiling lights round for these same size as the existing lights in my 695, slightly different screw holes and put some white paper circles in the luminaire, 4 layers of printer papers did the job for me not quite what you are looking for, but did the job for me there is a blue light setting which is v dim, but perfect for walking around at night time

Hi all, Today we placed some window film under the LED lights. We used the type of 'not looking inside but possible to outside' with black base, white outside and holes of 1,6 mm. We hope that the light intensity now will be acceptable.
