Hi
I'm new to this forum and Jeanneau but have recently acquired a 2016 MF855 with a single Yamaha 300. During the sea trial the hired skipper said the boat was slow on to the plane and would not achieve WOT above 5000rpm and recommended the prop be changed.
Currently fitted is a 4 x 14.625" x 19" which gives a top speed of 28kn @ 5000rpm. There's a sweet spot of 4000-4500rpm which gives 22-26kn and fuel consumption of 57-62 lph. Below 3800 the speed drops significantly down to 16-17kn and then off the plane.
I feel an earlier owner has set this boat up for long distance cruising but this is not what I'll be using the boat for. I'll be doing mostly short day trips of 15-20nm around the Solent in UK and therefore would probably benefit from something which offers a greater range of flexibility and is faster on to plane. I'm not concerned with top speed as my better half doesn't like going above 25kn anyway.
The Yamaha prop selector tool suggests three options... 1) 3 x 14.25 x 13 2) 4 x 14.25 x 13 3) 3 x 15.75 x 13 (I don't understand why it's not suggesting sizes in between)
Two questions.... 1) does anyone know the standard prop size for a MF855 with a Yamaha 300 ? 2) any recommendations on the best size prop to meet my needs ?
Thanks

Thanks Capt'n Lynn, I've studied that thread - would love to see your spreadsheet if possible.
