I am having trouble tracking down an electrical issue with my white stern nav light. It is an LED unit as are the bow lights. The bow lights work. Testing the wire connections at the light I am seeing 9 volts instead of 12. The ground side shows 8ohms when tested to a known good ground. The light itself works when I apply a known 12 v source, so the light itself is ok. I am thinking it looks like a bad connection somewhere along the way but I can’t find where the wire goes. It travels within a stanchion to area near transom behind a bunch of ventilation hoses then disappears. Does anyone know of a connection in this wiring where I might look? 2014 SO469.

Just to update: the wire for the stern nav light passes within a stanchion. I found that as it exits the stanchion in the aft locker both conductors were abraded and corroded. Easy fix to replace the section between the light and the plug in the locker.

Did the replacement fix your issue?

Yes! Sorry, I guess I left out the results. All working well now. In the process I decided to relocate the stern light anyway to a mount on top of my Davits so it is useful when I have my dinghy lifted. Since all the wiring is good now I might fit a switch so I can select which stern light (or both?) I want to use.
