Out of curiosity, if you have a Raymarine autohelm with the Evolution EV sensor, where is the sensor located? On our new to us 45 DS, the unit is in a port side cabinet in the aft cabin. It works, but its taking up valuable space and is easily influenced by what we have in the area (which changes a lot - its our cabin after all). Tom, Alchemyst, 45DS #312

Same position in my SO32 - portside cabinet in the aft cabin. When I first installed it, there was a collapsible umbrella resting on top of the cabinet, and I couldn’t fathom what made the deviation go out by over 15 degrees. Until I removed the umbrella, which proved to have steel ribs!
Best thing to do is watch against anything ferrous in the vicinity of the sensor.

It sounds like it might be worth relocating it. Mine is installed under a nav table seat in a compartment that I don’t use for anything that might interfere. Different boat, same idea.
