I’m getting ready to service my Barbarossa winches. I have two Barbarossa 46.2 and two 40’s. Does anyone have or know where I can find the schematics with an exploded view they can forward or sell. Or notes on how to dissemble and clean and reassemble Barbarossa winches? Help!

Babarossa was bought by harken, the numbers are different, but the parts are the same you'll have to call or match the winch number you have based upon the dwgs from harken. You can download the schematics from harken www.harken.com/winches/winch.php. Generally there is a screw in the bottom of the handle socket that will allow you to remove the drum . Mark,
40's require 4 new pawls and springs per. Would assume the 46.2's would too. ANY harken winch maintenance kit will work, as the palls and springs pretty much work up and down the line, from my single speed 14, dual speed 15 and dual speed 40's I have on my Arcadia, an equal yr smaller version of cygnet.
I can be reached local if you need some help. Not sure, but would assume Bob has done his SS38 in Seattle's winchs to.
You can get parts at WM or Fisheries.
Just unscrew the bolt at the bottom of where the winch handle goes in, and pull the outer drum off. take everything off, clean, add a bit of grease, replace the pawls and springs, put drum back on, retighten screw.

I have a Sun Shine 36 which I am upgrading right now. As was said, Barbarossa was bought by Harken and now all Harken winches are developed and manufactured in the old Barbarossa facilities. Unfortunatelly, you are not really able to replace the Barbarossa parts with new Harken parts. I had sent them a mail with the same question, and they replied in one day with some info and put Harken France in copy. By incredible luck, Harken France had two, slightly used 46.2 self tailing winches on what they give me 55% discount. By now, all winches are replaced with new self-tailing ones. + not only the parts are not compatible but also the base is different, which means when you change it, you need to patch the old holes and drill new ones. Good luck, MSafiri
