In my mind these are basically the same boats with a different bow roller. I’m not aware of any other differences. I believe that the different keel and mast options available are the same on both models. There are a few members here that own these boats and have quite a bit of experience with them and the usual variety of upgrades and add-ons for their style of sailing. Some longer cruisers and some day sailors along with a few planning on living aboard soon. I suspect some good advice will be available for any particular issues.

Hey everyone. I am moving from land to live aboard my 469. I haven’t taken possession of the boat yet, but would like to know what the layout of storage is so I can figure out what can go where. I’ll be renting some storage but also selling a lot so need to figure out what I can keep.
I’m also interested in what people store where on the boat, i.e. where do most of you store your tools, spare parts, equipment, linens, etc.?
If anyone has any drawings showing the storage areas, photos or other suggestions I’d love to see them.
thanks in advance,
David

There is a lot of storage room on these boats. The only real advice is to write down where you put everything that you put on the boat. I wish I did! It is amazing how many supplies I have bought and later discovered that I already had them. I just didn’t know where they are. Find out where your fluxgate compass is and don’t put ferrous metals nearby. Each of these boats are different. Depending on if you have a Genset, air conditioning etc you will have different storage available. Even with lots of duplicates and overbuying spares I have never run out of room. I have done a few 4-5 month trips and so far storage has not been a problem. Knowing where things are? That’s the problem. Enjoy the boat!

Great info and I will do just that. I never even thought about writing stuff down but I’ll keep a list going on my iPad so I know what went where.
I really appreciate the feedback,
Thanks David

Hi everyone, I am looking for information on the windlass on my 469. It’s a Quick, and may be the Aleph model? I am looking at the attached photo but I do not see a chain stopper. I do see a small red lock tab on the port side, and also note that the pressure lever seems to be too far out, away from the chain. Is anyone here familiar with this windlass and does anyone know: a) what the red lock tab does? b) why the lever is out so far? c) should there be a chain stopper between the windlass and the anchor roller? My inclination is yes to take the strain off the windlass at anchor. I am thinking the bridle will not work as effectively in the 469 since the bow is plumb, but am open to suggestions. Thanks, David edit: added picture using iCloud, sorry for so many edits - it’s harder than it needs to be...

Hi David Yes looks like the Aleph to me. The plastic lever should indeed be closer in. The unit is simple to strip, so worth investigating why it is not aligning. It is good practice anyway to at least annually service these to remove salt and crud from the clutch faces. The small lever locks the pawl. The pawl can either be engaged or disengaged, when disengaged this allows the chain to run free if you don't want to, or can't use the motor. As you point out don't rely on just the windlass to hold the anchor forces. I simply use a nylon rope which will stretch slightly to take the load. There are many fancy chain hooks available, but simply tie a clove hitch with a reasonable tail on the chain let put more scope and tie to a cleat, if you let the chain loop drop below the waterline, it will also reduce risk of the chain rubbing your topside and will be quieter. Regarding photo uploads this guide should help jeanneau.proboards.com/thread/8029/revised-guidance-photo-uploads-forum

I can’t see a way to post Sub-Threads here so I posted a few comments about the autopilot performance in a storm under equipment and commissioning area. Basically the boat and autopilot did very well in some really bad conditions. More detail in the post.

Can anyone help me identify the mainsheet/jib sheet/furling line lengths on the 479? I was hoping to order new ones to have on hand before I take the old ones off. Just bought the boat - it’s a 2016 that’s been sitting in place for awhile and the old sheets are pretty gross

Basically the boat and autopilot did very well in some really bad conditions. More detail in the post. Very interesting thanks for sharing that. When we did the sea trail on my 469 I found the autopilot was a bit schizophrenic – the wheel was turning back-and-forth quite erratically. Has anyone had this experience? The broker mentioned something about calibration, but I think I need to go through the set up and make sure everything is correct when I get the boat in a few weeks. Any thought appreciated.

Yes I think starting with a full commissioning calibration is a good idea. Also check the performance settings. I found the middle setting to work well. I think it is called cruising instead of leisure or racing.

Roger that. I found the manual and read up on it. I take possession of the boat in three weeks, so I’m working off photos right now. The control was updated to the latest P70R by RayMarine, but I don’t know if they changed the rest of the autopilot components to the new evolution or if it’s still SPX with the flux gate compass, but I will find out in a few weeks!
thanks for the advice, very helpful. David

Hi again guys, well I’ve been a board for a couple of weeks and all is going very well. I love the boat but I am having one issue with some fresh water in the bilge. The pump comes on about once a day and pumps out a small amount of water. I have tasted it and it’s freshwater. I can see that it’s coming from the port side, but the frustrating thing is it’s coming from a large covered area and the next compartment is completely dry, but it’s running down through the covered beam area so I can’t see where it’s coming from. Here’s a photo: does anyone have any thoughts on where this could be coming from or how to check? I can’t see much from the floor when i’m looking in there. I took the settee cushions off and looked everywhere and all is bone dry, so it seems to be from somewhere under the settee - i’m guessing one of the water hoses that passes athwartships from port to starboard. Maybe one is leaking or has a joint in it? looking at it I can see it’s been this way for a long time, probably years so I am looking forward to figuring it out and fixing it. Thanks in advance.

Do you have air conditioning that dumps condensate water?

No, no AC on this boat… yet. I am thinking it must be a small hole or maybe a screw that went into the main 19mm water line that crosses from port to stbd? The weird thing is the water is coming from inside that "beam", not from either compartment ahead of or aft of it.
Does anyone know what the hull looks like with the floor up? I’d like to see what that beam looks like all the way up to see where fresh water could be coming from. I’ll have to remove the table, cabinets, seat bases and pull up all the floorboards to track it up.
I should also note it’s been hot and sunny out so it’s not rain water, definitely coming from inside the boat.
Moonshadow - I love that you always respond and help - thanks man, and all of you. Great info on this forum.

I find useful a small flexible “endoscope” camera that will display on my phone or iPad. Long flexible cable is fairly easy to fish behind cabinets etc. Really useful and a big time saver. Cheap one from Amazon works well for me. Just make sure it’s waterproof.

Thanks - yes I have one and plan to run it in the “beam” on Saturday.
I was looking under the stove today and noticed there is ice buildup on the refrigeration equipment… I wonder if it could be water melting off the ice? It’s on the starboard side further aft, but maybe the water is running across and up some way that I can’t see. It’s been very hot here lately so perhaps that’s why the pump has been running more... more melt from the fridge?
Curious.

I have not had an ice accumulation (yet) on my fridge/freezer compressor coils. There have been a lot of comments previously here on these dometic devices. Hopefully your answer is in one of the threads. Are your hinge problems on the front refridgerator door or the top hatch? I’ll take a look at mine and take some photos if that might help.

I second Moonshaddow. I am a live aboard in the Chesapeake Bay in my 479 and through the hot Summer months we have not had any ice on either refrigeration coil. You may have a low refrigerant level.

Thanks guys. It’s a Vitrifrigo on my boat, not Dometic. i’m curious - how would low refrigerant cause this? It seems to me it’s the cold pipe causing vapour in the air to freeze on it. Not sure why low refrigerant would cause that? I’m actually thinking maybe it needs to be insulated? Here’s a photo:

I might be confused about the brand. Yours does look similar to mine. I did a bunch of reading about these when I bought my boat and the freezer didn’t work. Turned out it was never charged to begin with. But- I do agree that it could easily be a low refridgerant level. As I understand it these are a bit different than home or automobile systems. Removing water vapor, adding proper gas etc is a bit of an exacting process. I do know that some people have had success with trying a bit of gas for a car system. But the gas is a bit different and the evaporator pore size is really small. Even though I tend to to try most repairs myself I found this stuff is not for me to fix. I call in a pro with training and the right equipment. It is a very small amount of gas and a narrow range of operation. As to your question - why would low refridge gas cause this? I don’t remember the answer I got but I was convinced when I heard it! Good luck.
