What type of paint to use on the cast iron keel?

Short answer - epoxy. Long answer check with a paint manufacturers website for their details on surface preparation. I used Norglass information when I painted a keel a few years ago (https://www.norglass.com.au/how-to). If I remember correctly the base layer was a tar-epoxy that remained somewhat soft. My old boat is still in the club and the keel looked good last time I saw it.

Don't forget the preparation!
You can use many types of underwater paint, but unless you prepare the surface correctly it will not last long.
Most keels with rust streaks and peeling paint are the result of inadequate and poor preparation.

I ground down to bare iron. Initial coating of galvanized paint by Petit Then fairing material. sand and fair to specs you want. Epoxy undercoat bottom paint of you choice
