In the last year or so numerous 43ds owners have been in touch with each other about various upgrades, changes, things to watch out for etc on the 43ds and instead of email that some of us have been using Malcom Perrins has now kindly created a Model Specific forum for those with a 43ds. So do join in and let us know what ideas you have had for your 43ds. New sails? compression post problems? Extra storage space to be created under the saloon table? Muffler leaks/replacement? Dividing panels for the aft cabin? Increasing domestic batteries to 4 x 110Ah and where to put the starter battery? Changing the ENO oven? Hard to trace leaks? How to get those marks and scratches out of our wonderful saloon windows? Problems with jamming of the in-mast furling? The list goes on.
Usual rules apply regarding good behaviour and if we step out of line Malcolm is sure to rap some knuckles. Andres with his 43ds in HK (andres1/"Karma") and i with my boat currently in the Adriatic hopping back and forth between Italy & Croatia (saltymetals/"Genial Bee") are another 2 Moderators but i have yet to learn the talents of moderation!
Welcome, good sailing and I hope we get a chance to meet up at some point in our travels.
Andrew "Genial Bee"

good idea. it would be nice to also make a Facebook group just for us, much faster. I have many modifications and repairs to report. I had a fire on board, the causes are not yet known, but perhaps a water entry from the windows. I will update you. I don't know how to insert pictures. unfortunately I don't speak English ... I use the translator.

Hi Andrew Excellent news and great initiative. Personally I am inclined to avoid FB as much as possible, and having the discussions here will help us to better control trolls and ensure the quality of the content. hi so43ds , I think that Malcolm has documented the procedure to upload photos, making it simpler Cheers

I won't be signing up to anymore FB groups. They attract trolls and if kept private don't expand.

Just noticed this, and it is a great idea for us. I would also prefer to avoid Facebook, if possible.

Hi Robin,
We should have been heading out there in two days time but EasyJ decided to cancel the flights.... Again!!!!
There are a few odd ones going but by and large it seems everyone is gearing up for a July start. You should be good in August. I have other plans in July so unless BoJo gets off the fence and gives Greece a green light next week then September will be the earliest we have plans to visit, unless we break our own rules and face the crowds and heat of August.
At least it gives me time to source a whole new set of AGM batteries and a new Charger. Months of inactivity has well and truly killed them. I thought we might as well bite the bullet and go for a charger inverter, just wondering where we might be able to make one fit???
If you haven't heard it seems the requirement for Transit Log or Unlimited Transit Log for British flagged vessels has just about died albeit there is one senior official in customs that is not happy. The British ambassador and the Greek Minister for tourism have joined in the fight for common sense.
At the moment you will only need a crew list and e-Tepai receipt. Are you still in Cleo??
Maybe catch up with you on the water.
Yamas.
Brett

Thanks Andrew so very much for starting this. You mentioned three things right away that I have great interest in. First, the compression post problem. We just dug out a rotten chunk of wood on a friend's 2002 model and replace with G-10. Mine is next this summer. I have great interest in the storage under the saloon table. I have seen the pictures posted but I would like more information about how to dismantle to get started. I don't want to rip everything apart trying to get it installed. And, I have the wooden dividers for the aft cabin. Over the summer, when I am home, I could try to make a template for each one and post, if that is what some people want. I also am trying to find pesky leaks as I don't like any water in the bilge unless I know definitely where it comes from.
Thanks again for starting this. I am also in favor of NOT going to FaceBook.
I will keep this link active and share with my other 43DS friends here in the Chesapeake Bay.

Mick,
We don't have pull out drawers for this area but the floor hinges up and allows top loading. This might be easier to convert than making drawers - It all depends on your table pedestal arrangement. We have a solid wood cabinet in the centre of the table not metal posts.

Alenka, Yes, a friend has a hinged floor and it is great. Unfortunately I have the metal posts and this will not work. Thus, my desire to get the extra information on how the project was started. Before I go ripping things apart I would like to know if there is a secret to doing it with less destruction. Thanks for providing your input though. Mick
