We now have our fabulous new sprayhood and are about to finalise the design of our bimini. We are wondering if any other 410 owners have commissioned one? Any photos and experience with using the bimini would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Christian

Hi Christian I have a combination of a bimini that I can fold forward over the sprayhood. Moreover, I can fold the bimini backwards so I have open sky. The sidewall and wall at the stern can be connected by zippers, this is great. This mean that rainy days we have an extra living room that are dry and the mosquitos will have a bad day. In addition, windy days if you stay in harbor, you put up just one side. I have limited pictures but I hope you understand. Link from our supplier_ kapell-annat.se/segelbatskapell-jeanneau/#42DS

Some images here www.boatshop24.com/en/jeanneau-sun-odyssey-410/Sailboat/1369318 We have a similar wide bimini on our 39i, it works well as the overhang reduces sun coming in from the side and you can also adapt it to create a full enclosure which is magic. Looks from above photo you may need to be careful with the boom height...

Apo, your boat and canvas are excellent looking. If you are happy with your sprayhood I expect you would use the same canvas specialist for your bimini. My last 2 boats had custom sprayhood and bimini with a connector between the spay and bimini. This connector was about two feet wide and zipped in connecting the spray and bimini. On nice days the connector can be removed to let some overhead sun into the cockpit. It also reduces the size and weight of the bimini making the bimini a little more manageable when handling. I would also have zippers sewn into the bimini in event you want to add side enclosures at a future date. For bimini design I would tour your marina and take pics of other biminis that capture your interest. If you canvas specialist is well experienced I expect he will have some good design ideas for you.

Not a great photo, but you get the idea. 2008 SO42DS. Sunbrella fabric, Makrolon windows with UV & abrasive coatings. The center window opens up and folds back across the bimini; otherwise, it's fixed. Have a full snap-on cover when not sailing.

We have a full enclosure on our 39i. The side panels get left at home during the spring and summer. Our bimini is huge and provides a great deal of shade in the sunshine, and rain shelter as well. There is a clear connector that zips between the dodger and bimini to provide excellent rain protection. One thing to be careful off is where they choose to mount the framework. Make sure it doesn't interfere with winches and comfortable seating positions. We looked at a sistership to ours with a similar bimini made by the same company as ours. On that boat they mounted the hardware for the frame work right in the middle of the outboard helm seats! That seat is my favorite spot, and poor planning ruined it on the other boat. (We almost bought that particular boat but someone else beat us to it. I'm glad they did!)
