Hi All -
Reporting a scam having spoken to the company and recognising the photos from a South Coast Boat 'Miss Molly' sold last year. Price, model year and photos should raise alarm bells but here are the links.

Hi When you spoke to the company, what did they say? It certainly looks like a scam Steve

I reported a similar scam to Yacht Market some years ago and they took the ad down within a couple of hours.
Points to look for:
i. Price too good to be true.
ii. Legitimate company name (and contact) but offering services outside their normal business activities.
iii. Telephone number not a standard landline but an 07 number.... Looks like a mobile number but in fact a premium line that costs the earth to call. (No doubt you will find yourself in a line waiting for the next member fo staff to come free). 10 mins holding time at £5 per minute x how many thousands of eager people wanting to buy a boat at 50% below norm. Not a bad little earner.
The ad I spotted was for a newish Elan 434 at just £45,000. The company was the brokerage section of Plymouth Yacht Marina. PYM don't have their own brokerage section! I had just agreed £110,000 for a similar boat so knew it could not be true. I called PYM on their legit landline and they confirmed their name had be used in scams before.
Ironically, only yesterday I received a letter through the post the sender claiming that they believed I was entitled to money from the estate of a dead person with the same surname.... A long lost relative! There was no company name or address only an email address to reply to, plus the hint that if we worked together we could get our hands on the cash regardless even if no relationship with the deceased could be confirmed.
Should you reply to this type of letter you will eventually be asked for cash to cover the cost of filing the claim... then to pay the tax.... then unexpected associated fees... And so it will continue until the penny drops that you are being had.
These scams are well publicised but clearly people still keep falling for them.

PS. Has anyone else had a private massage through the forum claiming to be from Pro-Boards with undertones that they need financial help to keep going?
Just had one now.
It might be legit but has all the hallmarks of a scam to me.

Hope they survive as there is such a wealth of info built here over the years and no simple way of backing it up. One reason I cut out articles for Hints and Tips.
